4 seriously injured in wrong-way crash on US 13 - The News Journal Read Article
i was there during the event . I was almost right behind them . ! I was the first to get out and help as much as i can . when i first got out of my truck i looked at the car or what was left of the car and didnt think anyone would have survived . I seen the truck was on fire and a child in the back seat . Myself and two other men ran over and removed the child and then the driver . I heard a noise in the passenger side of the truck but didnt see anyone until i went over to the passenger side . I found a young lady practiclly jambed under the dashboard bloody and in pain . Everyone ran from the truck because of the fire but i choose to stay with the woman and yelled for someone to put out the flames . I insured the young lady that i would not leave her and i would stay by her side until help arrived . It was very sad for me to see this , but God gave me the faith to stay and be with her .finally the fire was put out and i felt a little releif . It took a while which seemed like an eternity for help to arrive .the fire company was the first to arrive along with the police to help .we triied to rip the door open to get her out but there was just too much damage to the truck for 2 men and myself to do . The fire company where great they removed her from the truck and away she went . I seen a life in front of me that i didnt want to loose . I still feel the effect of that night and gained a neww respect for the men and woman who do this all the time . As for the man in the car , he was alive , they all where alive . omg . I beleive i was suppose to be there to help , weird but i believe i was the angle that night and feel like i did what i was suppose to do . 05 07, 2013 | 11:31

My response should be viewed and understood that it does maintain all respect to the people and families injured and the losses of lives in Boston, April of 2013. The people of the United States have a flavored view of death toll statistics on it's streets. They get their information largely from the news media. An auto death in any news station is news for a given period of time based on a number of items. Another not so popular news item, for a period of time, is how much money should be spent on law enforcement and of course with it's political news, and of course it's almost never good news for the responsible public, unless it's cutbacks. If any individual would take 2 minutes to review death toll statistics in the United States for any given year, I would not be surprised that it is not something that would be repeated to friends at a Friday Party at about 01:00 AM, maybe even 11:00 PM. It would not become popular or repeated, DUI driver or not. For the folks who do drink and drive there would be an excuse why the statistics aren't 100% acurate. We really don't like hearing about ourselves when it's not colorful. A real DUI state of mind, without alcohol, with reference to personal emotional travel through a lifetime is driving under the influence of being able to not be influenced by our statistics. I was the very first one on the scene. I was on my motorcycle with my girlfriend when i saw him fly right by me. I pulled over turned around and drove up the road to help. I am a firefighter from parsippany. I checked the mans pulse and knew right away he was gone. I went to the next car where the women was ok and the final car where the man was entrapped. He was complaining of a few injuries so at that point i went to assist the man that was driving the car going the wrong way. A doctor came out to help me where he put a neck brace on him and we removed him from the car. The dr started cpr trying to revive him. Nothing was helping. I went back to the entrapped man where the local fd arrived and i told them what we needed. Thats the story i no the man was old and there was nothing the state police could have done to prevent it. I am outraged at the lack of good judgement and decency displayed by highway patrol saturday on the howard franklin bridge. I was traveling across the bridge shortly after the fatal accident occured, with my 16 year old daughter in the car. After two hours of traffic and moving at 2 mph we approached the accident scene. The total disregard in which a sheet was tossed over the poor man, allowing every passerby an unnecessary and clear view of his body and the bodily fluids in the street was sickening. There were half a dozen patrol and road ranger vehicles at the scene. Could they not position their vehicles around the man so every one of us driving by could be spared this horrific visual?? Does anyone care about our children anymore? I saw many vehicles trying to cross that bridge after 3 pm with small children in their cars waving to us because of our puppy looking out the window on my daughter's lap in the front seat. As i approached the scene and quickly sized up what i was seeing, i told my daughter to look away, but too late. She looked right at the scene and no sooner did we pass by, she vomited in the front seat of the car. I had nightmares all weekend. Yesterday, driving back to the east coast, every time i heard a motorcycle behind me on the highway, i froze in terror as my heart rate raised. Why would anyone not do a better job to cover the accident scene from on lookers?? I intend to write to our state senator and tampa authorities. It would be absolutely crazy for the Texas DOT to keep trucks from using the left lane on I-40 in Amarillo. What would happen, for instance, if such a law were to be passed? What would it mean, to the people of Amarillo, if the truck drives took exception to such a rule? In the first place, the extremely high volume of truck traffic on I-40 would tend to cause traffic jams, especially at entrance and exit ramps. Granted, it might temporarily increase revenue to the state coffers. But in the long run, it would probably be detrimental to state revenue because increased tickets to truck drivers could diminish the already depleted population of over-the-road Commercial Drivers. But, to propose a hypothetical scenario; truck drivers could organize--through the tradition of truckers using citizen band radios on channel 19--a protest convoy, especially during rush hour. We could organize our efforts, and we would time our departure from truck stops and incoming traffic that could completely stop traffic in all lanes--even the far left lane--on I-40. Traffic jams will probably become commonplace, and more car-truck wrecks will probably increase anyway--even if truck drivers were to make no overt effort to disrupt traffic. But in a worst-case situation, where truck drivers would organize: including exiting at Coulter and head back to the east, and then to exit at Pullman road and head back to the west; traffic would come to a virtual standstill. What would happen to downtown traffic, and what would happen at all the traffic transfer points; if traffic were to stall because nobody could egress nor have access to the merge lanes? Think for a moment, if you will, what it would do to traffic--then, show up in full force at the informal information presentation, which starts at 5:30 PM today, March 28, 2013. Fernando, Mike and Jose worked for Sanjel and were killed in a vehicle accident in Odessa, TX on March 26, 2013. They were three great friends that were together most of the time. The worst part was paying our condolences between spouses. We keep close contact and every time we see each other or talk on the phone it makes it harder as we can’t stop crying. It is easy to understand each other as we are all going thru this pain that we do not know how to handle. The three AMIGOS were great husbands, sons and brothers. They were always cheerful and joking. Mike and Fernando were the best fathers and would do anything for their children. In addition, they were hard workers and excellent human beings.
